Trek overview

The Langtang Trek is a beautiful Himalayan trail that takes you through dense forests, flowing rivers, and breathtaking glaciers, while passing traditional mountain villages. It offers a perfect mix of stunning natural scenery, local culture, and a peaceful trekking experience away from crowded routes.

Nestled north of Kathmandu, the Langtang Valley is one of Nepal's most accessible yet rewarding trekking destinations. The valley is home to the Tamang and Sherpa communities whose rich culture, monasteries, and warm hospitality add a unique dimension to the journey. The trail winds through the Langtang National Park, home to red pandas, Himalayan tahr, and a spectacular variety of birds.

Brief itinerary

Kathmandu – Drive to Syabrubesi (1,460m)
Scenic 7–8 hr drive through mountain roads, terraced hillsides and river valleys, passing through Trishuli Bazaar. Overnight at lodge.

Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,470m)
Cross the Bhote Koshi River and ascend through oak, bamboo, and rhododendron forest following the Langtang Khola. Approx. 5–6 hrs. Overnight at lodge.

Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3,430m)
Climb steadily through dense forest opening into alpine terrain with snow-peak views. Pass Ghodatabela as the valley widens. Approx. 5–6 hrs. Overnight at lodge.

Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m)
⭐ Gentle ascent through yak pastures and traditional settlements with expansive mountain views. Approx. 3–4 hrs. Afternoon free for rest and exploration. Overnight at lodge.

Acclimatisation Day – Kyanjin Gompa
Optional hikes to Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri viewpoints (4–6 hrs). Take in the monastery, cheese factory, and sweeping glacier views. Overnight at lodge.

Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel
Return journey descending through alpine meadows and forested trails along the valley. Approx. 6–7 hrs. Overnight at lodge.

Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi
Gradual descent through forested terrain along the Langtang Khola, returning to Syabrubesi. Approx. 5–6 hrs. Overnight at lodge.

Drive Syabrubesi to Kathmandu
Scenic 7–8 hr drive back to Kathmandu, marking the end of the Langtang Valley Trek.
